Q1: What is a "good" TDS reading for drinking water?

A: A quality TDS reading depends on the water source. Generally speaking, the smaller the number, the fewer dissolved solids. For reverse osmosis filtered water, TDS levels are significantly reduced. While a reading below 50 ppm is common, the exact number can depend on the quality of the original source water. For most city tap water, a reading of 50-150 ppm is a good indicator of a healthy mix of natural minerals. The best level is often a matter of taste and individual preference.

Q2: Will a TDS meter test for bacteria, viruses, or lead?

A: No. A TDS meter is designed to read one and only one thing: Total Dissolved Solids—the organic and inorganic salts present in water. It won't detect nasty contaminants like bacteria, viruses, parasites, or individual heavy metals like lead. It's a great gauge of your water's overall cleanliness and filter effectiveness, but it's no substitute for a lab test.

Q3: How do I take care of my TDS meter for accurate readings?

A: Your water test is simple to keep. Just wash the probe with purified water after each use and gently blot dry with a soft cloth. Put on the protective cap of the meter when done. This storage ensures the probe remains clean and your next test is ready.

Q4: Why might my TDS reading be different from my city's water quality report?

A: A city water report provides an average reading for a massive area. Your own TDS reading is a real-time reading of water coming out of your specific tap. Situations like old pipes or your home's plumbing can affect the final TDS level.

Q5: What can I use this TDS meter for?

This is a multi-purpose tool ideal for testing tap water, filtered water, aquariums, pools, and more. It helps ensure your water is safe and suitable for drinking, cooking, gardening, or for your aquatic pets.

Q6: Is this device suitable for travel?

Yes, its compact and portable design makes it perfect for use on the go. You can easily take it with you when traveling, camping, or for any outdoor activities to check water quality anywhere, anytime.

Q7: How durable is this TDS meter?

The meter is built with a sturdy and water-resistant body designed to withstand daily use. This durable construction ensures it remains reliable and functional even with frequent handling and exposure to water.
